AIM OF THE CENTRE

The Crayford Centre is committed to empowering Mental Health Service. Users in the process of recovery from Mental Ill Heath and associated social and personal problems. This is realised by identifying and achieving personal goals and developing confidence and self reliance within a community setting. 

The overall objective is to support and encourage service users to attain their potential through minimising the negative effects of mental health problems and lead to a better quality of life.
The Crayford Centre delivers a diverse range of intersecting and stimulating centre and community based services within a framework of equal opportunity, valuing cultural and other forms of diversity
amongst service users and staff.

 

HISTORY OF THE CENTRE

The Crayford Centre was opened as a mental health drop-in in 1977. In 1986, Bexley Council and Bexley Health Authority jointly agreed to develop the centre into a resource that could provide a wider and expanded service.source that could provide a wider and expanded service. Since this time, it has developed into an ongoing day centre service with an average daily attendance of 50. Overall membership currently stands at around 250.

In 1998 the Centre underwent a major redecoration which included the refurbishment of the kitchen, offices and a new tea bar which the members run themselves. The Centre is always seeking ways to improve the environment for all members. A new conservatory was added in June 2001.

 

CENTRE FACILITIES

Lunches are available at a cost of 75p. Clothes washing facilities are available at 75p and there are male and female showers. Members should use the pay phone to make and receive telephone calls on: (01322) 521702.

 

SUPPORT AT THE CENTRE 

As a new member, you will be appointed a keyworker for the first 6 weeks. Your keyworker will help you to settle in and is someone you can go to for help or advice during this time. After this time a keyworker is available upon request by you, if at any time you feel that you need a bit of extra support. A member of staff is available everyday.  Deatils to be found on the board each day.  Counselling may be available; please check with staff. You can expect regular reviews with staff, first at 3 months, then every 6 months. However, reviews are available at any time on request should you wish to have one. 

IF AT ANY TIME YOU NEED SUPPORT FROM A MEMBER OF STAFF: JUST ASK!

You should continue to seek medical support via your GP, Community Mental Health Team, CPN or psychiatrist.
