CRAYFORD DAY CENTRE
OXLEAS NHS TRUST
This is a superb example of such a service, which offers
excellent facilities, and extended opportunities for the individuals who use it.
Occupying the whole ground floor of the building, it offers interesting and
comfortable surroundings. It is centrally situated for public transport.
Workshops involving a number of music and artistic areas are available. Several
users are taking courses at a local college, thanks to the support they have
received at the centre.
A wide range of information on many issues is available, and the day centre also
has it's own information leaflet.
The staff team is enthusiastic and innovative. Users attending the service were
very happy with it, and all those involved should be commended for developing
this model of positive practice.
Centrepieces, the mental art group based at the Crayford Centre, have had a
successful year culminating in a month long exhibition of work at a gallery in
Bexley. The group also worked on a photographic project to commemorate the
closure of Bexley Hospital - a Victorian Asylum which has now been replaced with
a new in-patient unit and a variety of community based services.
Comments:
A service that looks out into the community to provide different
opportunities for those using it, whilst providing the support and feeling of
security within themselves, they need to access it.
